Tungabhadra Dam
Tungabhadra Dam is the biggest reservoir constructed over the Tungabhadra River. Its location is in Hospet, a town in Karnataka. The multitude of purposes that has been formulated for provides irrigation facilities, electricity supply and also regulating floods in the nearby areas. Hence it can be said that the dam does not only provide an astounding scenic beauty but is also fulfilling the daily necessities of millions of people. The project was a joint collaboration of the State of Hyderabad and Madras Presidency. Its construction has provided livelihood to thousands of local villagers and city people. The project was later taken up by the joint collaboration of the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh which led to its construction in 1953. Dr. ThirumalaiIyenger is credited for the remarkable engineering behind this alluring dam.
Construction
Tungabhadra Dam has been known to be one of the biggest constructions over the Tungabhadra River with 101,000 million cubic feet of storage capacity when full. So, much water to hold the dam is able to provide water supply to complete Karnataka. Its formidable engineering gives it a 49.5 meter height above the dam’s deepest foundation. The canals that have been constructed are the main source of supply to entire Karnataka. Some regions of Andhra Pradesh are also covered by this dam.

How to Reach
By Road
Tungabhadra Dam is located about 15 km from Hampi which can be reached by road easily. People can hire cabs or take buses to reach the location from Hospet bus station. The tourists can also consider travelling by private vehicles only if they are familiar with the area.
By Train
To reach the area by train, one would have to do get to Hampi railway station from where road cabs or buses can be hired.
