Someshwara beach is famous for its sunset view. The golden sands, pristine greenery and breathtaking views, along the route from Mangalore and coconut palms along the beach make it a must-visit destination in the tourists list. It is well known for the large rocks called ‘Rudra Shile’ that holds a prominent aura. The beach is close to Byndoor and Ullal towns. Mangalore has a hot and humid climate and it rains heavily here for almost 4 months of the year. The best time to visit Someshwara Beach is between October and February when humidity level goes down.

Location

Someshwara beach is located near the periphery of Mangalore. It is mainly situated in Ullal at the junction of Netravati River and Arabian Sea. It is a perfect place for nature lovers and swimmers who want to have some exciting and adventurous time for them. In North is located Sri Somnath Temple, believed to be constructed during the reign of famous queen Abakkaa Devi.

The endless expanse of golden sand is ideal for sunbathing. When high tides strike the beach forcefully, it reminds about the huge power of Mother Nature. You can climb Ottinene Hillock for the best view of Netravati River. A large amount of green vegetation is present over this hillock and medicinal plants grow here naturally. No wonder, government has declared to develop a park for medicinal plants here that would also serve as a tourist spot.

Ullal Beach

This beach is situated in Ullal town. It was the capital of Tulu Kingdom, Ullal. It was ruled by a Jain queen Rani Abakka Devi in the middle of 16th century.

Surathkal Beach

This beach is totally clean and unspoilt by tourist traffic. It is 12 kms away from Mangalore and close to the Surathkal Engineering College, a well known educational institution. It is preferable to stay in Mangalore and plan a trip to Surathkal for convenient boarding and lodging.

Udupi

It is headquarters of Udupi District. It is famous for Udupi Krishna and Udupi Masala Dosa. Krishna temple is located in this city. This place is also known for ‘Shiwalli Madhwas Brahmins’ who cooked food for lord Krishna and creators of cuisine of Krishna Matha.

Malpe

It is 6 kms away from Udupi, Karnataka. It is known for its beautiful and attractive golden brown sands and turquoise blue water. The splendid view of the sea will make your trip unforgettable. 

Kollur

It is a small town at the base of Kodachadri Park and 130kms away from Mangalore. It is one of the sacred and holy pilgrimages of Karnataka. It is one of the seven pilgrimages of Karnataka and is believed to be established by Parshuram in the name of Hindu Goddess Parvathi.

Someshwara beach is merely 9 km away from Mangalore city which is well connected to all parts of India via road as well as rail. Mangalore airport is the closest airport for reaching this beach. Considering roadways, Someshwara beach is about half kilometers from Someshwara bus stand and easily accessible.
