Playing such a significant role in providing the light of education, Jammu University offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs for its students. It has a massive central library which is known to store somewhere around 3.5 lakh books ranging from very rare books to the most recent ones. Moreover, various academic activities are also carried by the students in the library. Recently, its name has been re-transformed to Dhanvantri Library as a tribute to the freedom fighter, Dhanvantri. He also has performed various social causes in Jammu and Kashmir.

Being the central library of such a huge education network, Dhanvantri library contains a huge number of books whose count is somewhere around 3.5 lakhs along with a considerable electronic media collection. It has a wide collection of books ranging from some of the most historic one to the most recent ones. Providing an ample of knowledge to the students, the central library has a very major importance in the university's infrastructure. One can find the most fabulous books in the library covering academics and current affairs at the same time.  

Structural Synopsis

The Dhanvantri library is a four story building with a stack area of near around 36,000 square feet. Providing reading facilities to almost 500 students at a time, the library is also well-equipped with photocopiers, LCD projectors, various interconnected computer terminals and some other modern technical equipments as well. It contains three main reading halls along with a number of other reading sections. The library has a gargantuan structure having a huge number of books on almost everything that exists. It is basically constructed on a modular plan allowing students to captivate the reading environment.

How to Reach

Central library is located in Jammu University, which is on Tawi River. It is somewhere around 600 kilometres from the national capital, Delhi with sound connectivity from trains and buses.  As far as public transit is considered, you can get there in almost 10 hours via national highway 1A. Moreover, Jammu is also known as the city of temples since there are many old temples and mosques located in the city and hence broadening the tourism perspective.
