Imambara Goom

Imambara Goom is one of the most asked for religious places located at Ahmadpora, Baramulla District. This district is the largest of the districts in the valley when talked about the area and the population. The area of the district is 4588 sq km and as per the projections in 2001, the population then was 11.51 lakhs. Baramulla district has 8 tehsils and 16 CD blocks. This place is not different from the other parts of the Kashmir Valley and is equally beautiful and serene. The food, dressing style, traditions and customs are the same and followed in uniformity in different parts of the valley. Paharum, Gojari and Uri are some of the languages that are also spoken in the valley but their main language is Kashmiri. The earlier mentioned languages can be heard in Bandipora and Gulmarg and Dard in Tilail and Gurez areas. Urdu is also spoken by some of the locales.

The Baramulla district has many religious places and one of them is Imambara Goom. The Buddha Vihars, Teeraths makes this a must visit place for the Hindus and the Buddhists. The famous Muslim saint Syed Janbaz Wali chose this district as his mission’s centre and was buried there after his death. This place became prominent for Muslims as well in the 15th Century. Pilgrims from the whole valley visit his shrine without fail. Also a Gurudwara was constructed by the sixth Sikh Guru Shri Hargobind Ji and the name of the Gurudwara was kept as Chatti Padshahi. These places thus become an important destination for the Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and the Buddhists combining it to be a rich cultural heritage.

This district was founded by Raja Bhimsina and was declared as the gateway to the valley due to its location on the route to the valley from Muzaffarabad which now lies in POK and Rawalpindi in Pakistan. Also many prominent and famous visitors have been to the beautiful locations and have left their marks in the form of temples, shrines and Gurudwaras.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit this paradise is throughout the year and one can enjoy the serene and calm environment without any worries. The weather conditions range from 8 degrees to 20 degrees in summers and from -10 to 10 degrees in the winters which is quite manageable.

How to Reach

Baramulla is at a distance of 60 km from Srinagar. One can reach Srinagar by air with the frequent flights to the other parts of India. From Srinagar, one can easily get a bus or a taxi to Baramulla and the national highway connects the Baramulla district to the whole country. The airport from Srinagar to Baramulla is at a distance of 65 km and is well connected to the nearby localities with the help of taxis and buses. The closest Railway station is in Jammu Tawi which is at a distance from the District Headquarters of 360 km. As per the records, also a new railway line is being made which will connect the Baramulla district to the Jammu Tawi by going through stations like Anantnagm, Srinagar, Budgamm Pulwama, Udhampur and Doga.
