The Postal Index Number (PIN) also called the PIN code is actually a six digit code which is used by the Post offices for numbering the Indian Post. This pin code was introduced in India on August 15, 1972. In total there are nine PIN regions in India. The initial 8 ones are geographical regions while the 9th digit is reserved for the Indian Army portal Services.
