Chhatrasal Stadium

Chhatrasal stadium is one of the famous stadiums in India with sport facilities for both indoor and outdoor games. It is popularly known for its top class sports facilities. The stadium became known nationwide after the 1982 Asain games. The stadium was also used later for practice by athletes for the Commonwealth Games 2010 and the stadium earned praises of all the athletes across the world.

The stadium has facilities for indoor games including Table Tennis, Aerobics, Gym/ Fitness, Judo, Taekwondo, Chess, Billiards/ Snooker, and Carrom. The outdoor facilities include Wrestling, Football, Athletics, Archery, and Yoga. The Chhatrasal stadium features a synthetic athletic track of 400 X 8 meter.

The Chhatrasal stadium has been used by several national and international players for training. Notable names are Yashveer Dbaas, Mahabali Satpal, Yogesh Datt, Sushil Kumar, and Thakur Devi Singh.

The stadium remains closed on Sundays and on national holidays

History

The Chhatrasal stadium is named after the Maharaj Chhatrasal. As a tribute to him, his sculpture is installed in black marble near the entry gate. The stadium was first built in 2000 and is directed by Dronacharya awardee, Mahabali Satpal. Ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth games, the stadium was completely renovated.

Athletics

Facility available-  400 X 8 meters synthetic athletic track and a double -storeyed athletic block.

2010 Commonwealth Games

The stadium was used by national and international players for practice of 2010 Commonwealth games. It was completely renovated to meet the international standards of the Commonwealth games.

Renovation

The Chhatrasal stadium was renovated ahead of the Commonweath games of 2010. The renovated stadium was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dixit. Rs 70 crore were invested in the renovation of the stadium. The renovated stadium now featured a 400 X 8 meters synthetic athletic track and a new double -storeyed athletic block.

The main features were development of a physiotherapy centre, medical room and two separate lounges for male and female athletes. A parking facility of 464 vehicles was made available. 

Cafeteria and security centre is also present there now.
