India Gate Lawns

The 42 m high India Gate stands at the centre of New Delhi just like an archway on a crossroad and is a war memorial to the soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War. Surrounding this grand and imposing structure is a large expanse of attractive lush green lawns referred to as the India Gate Lawns, which is a popular picnic spot and a perfect place for a halt.

The best thing to do here is to lull on the green grass and walk around the green lawns especially in the evenings, on a cloudy day or on a sunny winter morning. Children enjoy playing in the lawns and around the trees.

India Gate Garden has a lot to offer in the name of entertainment. You can enjoy watching the monkeys perform, have a camel ride, play with the big balloons, and blow soap bubbles all over the lawns. Or more simply, just lie down on the cool lawns, lick an ice candy and watch the Grand India Gate and the beautifully illuminated fountains. There is also an amusement park here for children to enjoy swings and rides. There are plenty of ice cream vendors around the area to complete the visit.

A part of Rajpath has already been made a no-traffic zone in the evenings so that this place is available to citizens without any worries.

This tourist attraction is visited by at least 25,000 people every day, a number that easily doubles on the weekends. Being a lucrative business location, the India Gate Lawns are crowded by hundreds of vendors and hawkers and make it a fair-like festive environment. Snacks ranging from fruit-chaat, bhel-puri, chana-jor-garam (spicy chickpeas), dal-pakodas, potato chips, to all varieties of ice creams, candy floss and cold drinks are commonly sold here.

Boating facilities are also available at particular timings in the water bodies alongside the lawns.

As for parking, specific arrangements have been made for the picnickers.
