Deer Park

Deer Park, which is also popular as A.N Jha Deer Park, is a popular destination among joggers and morning walkers. Named after famous social worker Aditya Nath Jha, it is located in South Delhi and attracts hundreds of people on weekends.

It’s interesting to see deer wandering in the middle of the city as they roam inside the enclosure, play with each other or even have occasional friendly fights. The park offers both entertainment as well as learning experience for everyone.

Visitors can also find a variety of birds and guinea pigs inside the park. Deer Park is undoubtedly a great delight for the animal lovers, yet it has a lot more to animals than just deer or guinea pigs.

The park is divided into four wings, viz. Hauz Khas Art Market, Old Monuments, Fountain and District Park, Rose Garden and Deer Park, allowing visitors a lot of options to explore. Located in the heart of the capital city, the park is surrounded by a lot of greens, completely different from the loud traffic outside.

Beautiful gardens along with well-maintained landscapes make the park a perfect place for an outing with family or friends. The park also has a beautiful restaurant named Park Baluchi so that visitors can at easily plan a whole day trip to cover the entire area. Deer Park is also a good choice for picnic with friends.

History of the Park

Deer Park was constructed with the idea of offering some pollution free green space to the people living in Delhi. A shed for the senior citizens was inaugurated in the park by Shri Ajay Maken, the then Union State Minister for Urban Development on June 1, 2008. In this shed, 500 senior citizens can be easily accommodated and there is space to practice different cultural, religious or social activities at any time round the year.

Located at Hauz Khas area, the park has a dedicated section for old monuments, offering a glimpse of the glorious past of the city. Historical tombs that were constructed during the Mughal Era attract attention.

Best Time to Visit

The park is ideally suited for morning walks or jogging. Suring summer, the park remains open every day from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (till October), while in the winter months, the park is accessible from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. There is no entry fee for the Deer Park or the adjacent green park.

How to Reach

The park is easily accessible from Safdarjung Enclave and the Hauz Khas Village. Being adjacent to District Park, it can be easily reached from R K Puram through the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association. People availing the Metro railways need to get down at the Green Park station and for those traveling through local trains, Nizamuddin Railway Station is the nearest. Auto rickshaws are also available to and from Deer Park. Located in the heart of the city, it is only 11 kms away from Delhi airport.
