Chandigarh- "The Fort of Chandi"

Chandigarh is one of the most beautiful cities as well as union territories of India. It is also the capital city of two states, namely Punjab and Haryana.  This city derives its name from a very famous temple known as Chandi Mandir and that is why Chandigarh is sometimes called as The Fort of Chandi too. Chandi Mandir is dedicated to Goddess Chandi who is worshipped with lots of devotion and faith.

After India got its independence in the year 1947, Chandigarh was the first city to be planned in a unique style with excellent architecture and innovative modern design.  On the other hand, the cities that were planned before independence include New Delhi in Delhi, Dispur in Assam and Jaipur in Rajasthan. Some of its projects were designed by top architects including Maxwell Fry, Pierre Jeanneret, Le Corbusier and Jane Drew. This city cum union territory has also a record of generating higher per capita income of INR99262 (US$1,700) in 2006-07. According to the national government study of 2012, Chandigarh received the title of being the cleanest city of India.  As per Human Development Index, this city again topped the charts in 2005.

Located amidst the Shivalik Range, Chandigarh is considered to be the finest city with beautiful gardens and well designed structures.  This entire city is spread is an area of 114 sq km and serves to be the capital of two different states (Haryana and Punjab). The credit of a modern look of this city goes to none other than the architects who with their excellent skills and teamwork thought of crafting such a well planned town.  The team of architects was headed by a French architect known as Le Corbusier who created the design of modern Chandigarh which you see today.

This amazing city is the best example of the well planned and modern cities of India. It consists of 47 sectors, all of which are well connected through roads.  Every sector has its own shopping mall, parks, markets, buildings and other amenities which are needed by people.  Even the environment is really pleasant with lots of trees planted around the roads that make Chandigarh one of the finest and worth visiting destinations.

Chandigarh is popularly known for its creativity and the well built monuments that seek the attention of visitors. A variety of cultural performances are organized for people in the form of theater activities that are very much appreciated by all. Even art galleries and museums are also visited by people so that they are able to explore the traditions and culture that exist here. There are lots of partying spots in Chandigarh along with amusement facilities like art performances that will grab your attention. You can also enjoy the nightlife of this city through the exciting clubs that offer complete entertainment.

Chandi Mata Mandir

Chandigarh is famous for its Chandi Mandir which is situated about 15 kms from the Chandigarh-Kalka highway.  Being one of the most visited places of this city, you will surely love the temple and the historical facts related to it.

This temple is very beautiful and designed in a very unique style.  Goddess Chandi is considered to be the main deity of this temple with lots of people visiting this place to seek her blessings. Most people are of the view that they find lots of peace here and that is why they visit the temple at least once in a year.

Known to be the oldest temples, a few priests say that it belongs to the Mahabharata times.

It was during the Mahabharata times when this temple was created and hence this city received its name from this temple only. Navratras is the peak time when lots of people come here and worship the Goddess.

Though it holds a long historical background but Chandi Mandir is an ideal place to experience the calmness of the city and enjoy a peaceful environment.
