The Capitol is one building, which tourists who visit Punjab and Chandigarh should see. This building is a perfect sample of architectural brilliance of buildings from both the states. Le Corbusier, one of the chief architects who were responsible for Chandigarh being marvellous today, is the main brain behind The Capitol too. Being the main headquarters of Punjab and Haryana state governments, The Capitol is home to some of the most significant buildings like the High Court, Legislative Assembly and the Secretariat. All these buildings are great embodiments to represent the democratic spirit of the country of the country. All these buildings are major tourist attractions in Chandigarh because of the architectural sophistication they possess. There is a cover of two layers over The Capitol, which resembles an umbrella that is positioned upside down.

According to a recent statistical survey conducted, The Capitol has had around 2334 local and international tourists visiting it over the last year (period between April 1 2012 and May 31 2013. The Ministry of Tourism and its related departments has accepted and granted around 901 permissions to tourists.

How to Reach

By Air

Chandigarh, which is the nearest airport from this place, is well connected with all the major cities of the country like Delhi, Mumbai, etc. through regular Jet Airways and Indian airlines flights. The Chandigarh airport is just about 12km from this place. At the airport, tourist can get all the information from the tourist helpline desks there.

By Train

The nearest railway station to this place is the main railway junction of Chandigarh. It is only 8km away from here. Chandigarh and Delhi are well connected by trains like Shatabdi Express and Himalayan Queen that run a couple of times every day. It is well connected with Mumbai through the Paschim Express. At the main railway junction, there are Chandigarh State Transport buses to carry passengers from here to other major destinations. CITCO buses offer free pick and drop to the railway station as a part of the offer from the CITCO hotel group.

By Road

Government and privately owned buses offer excellent connectivity for Chandigarh with the other states in its vicinity. One can find the bus terminus for inter-state connectivity at Sector 17. The buses are of different types (AC, non AC, luxury, budget, reclining, coaches, deluxe etc.) to suit the needs of the tourists.
